Le Debit d’Ivresse ‘Dans la Lune’ red
Le Debit d’Ivresse ‘Dans la Lune’ redLuc Devot was a cook for 7 years, a fisherman for 3 years, musician, animator, educator. He had many lives before becoming a winemaker. He worked his first harvest with Jean-Louis Tribouley, who introduced Luc to natural wines. In the years that followed, many winemakers settled with similar cultivation and vinification methods. Driven by this momentum, and after training with Loïc Roure from Domaine du possible, he became a volunteer at the “La remise” wine fair. Although Luc had often worked in the vineyard, the three years spent at Philipe Wies winery (Domaine de la petite baigneuse) made him realise the reality of the profession to be a winegrower. Luc’s very first vinification was in 2017 and now he works with 4 hectares of vines. All wines are unfiltered, unfined, with tiny amount of added sulfites.
100% Lledoner Pelut, aka “Hairy Grenache,” a wild, indigenous variant of Grenache Noir.
From Bon Raisin: “Hairy Grenache, also known as Lledoner Pelut, [is] a variant [of] Grenache Noir and an ancient varietal with it’s origins firmly planted both sides of the Pyrenees mountains in Catalonia. After a slight resurgence in the late 1990s, it’s now only possible to find around 250 hectares in production in France, and almost exclusively in the Languedoc-Roussillon.”
The grapes are hand-harvested and carbonically macerated in stainless steel for 8 days. The wine is pressed and completes fermentation in stainless steel, before being transferred to neutral oak for 7 months. The wine is racked back into neutral oak for one month before bottling unfined, unfiltered with a touch of SO2.
Quattro Volte Bifaro Rosso
Quattro Volte Bifaro RossoLe Quattro Volte is a small winery run by Daniela De Marco, Giampiero Ventura (ex Masseria Perugini) and Dario Brunori located in a beautiful and uncontaminated nature; Calabria. Located in the village of San Marco Argentano (roughly 30 km from the Tyrrhenian seaside) The vineyards are planted in a range of 200-400 meters above sea level and they are located between 2 natural reserves. The focus is on indigenous sorts Mantonico and Magliocco. The vineyards are farmed organically and a low intervention approach is taken in the cellar. Chemicals or additives are not used in the farming or winemaking. The wines are bottled unfiltered, unfined with less then 40ppm total sulfites.
Maurer Kadarka
Maurer Kadarka100% Kadarka. organic farming; pre-phylloxera vines (100 years+ old) on Danubian green sand soils; horses used to work vineyards, fermented in open vat then aged in big old oak casks for 12 months; bottled unfined, unfiltered with less then 20 ppm sulfites (very low).
This Balkan gem is a lovely skin-contact Kadarka from Serbia. The Maurer family, originally from Salzburg, is now one of the only natural winemakers in Serbia and has been the godfather of Serbian natural wine movement. Maurer family has been vine growing here, on the Hungarian border in the region of Subotica / Szabadka, for 4 generations. And their Kadarka vineyard, planted in 1880, is the oldest in the world — no small feat, given that most producers have given up on this challenging-to-grow grape (tight clusters = susceptible to rot).
Oszkár’s Kadarka is simple and refreshing, with bright acidity and tart fruit to cut through the fat of aperitvo snacks or fall feasts. It tastes like a brisk fall day – tart pomegranate and blood orange with cloves, and barely-there tannins. Factor in the extremely low ABV (11.4%) and you’ve got the perfect holiday wine – without the post-party hangover. Serve slightly chilled.
